 Study Opportunities in Biomedical Engineering

Research Higher Degree

Eligible graduates with a scientific, medical or engineering background, may undertake a Master of Philosophy or PhD within this field. The programs are particularly appropriate for students whom are planning professional research careers in academia and industry.  A selection of the group's current research projects are detailed under Research Projects. Non-engineering graduates interested in this option are encouraged to discuss eligibility and project opportunities with the BME staff.

Admission requirements and procedures for domestic or international Research Higher Degree enrolment are available from the relevant link within the Study@ITEE webpage.

See the sidebar for links to further information about the activities and membership of this research group.

Postgraduate Coursework

The School has been offering a Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering ME (Biomed) since 2003. Graduates who hold a bachelors degree in Engineering and wish to undertake advanced studies in Biomedical Engineering may wish to consider the postgraduate coursework program Master of Engineering (Electrical), which allows the selection of advanced courses on relevant topics and a thesis project under the supervision of a staff member from this research group. Follow the links below for further information on the program as a whole or to obtain more detail on each of its streams or sub-streams.

If you are an Australian or international student and have completed an engineering degree at another University you may be credited with up to #8 towards your ME (provided the previous degree is deemed appropriate by the program coordinator.) This would allow the the Masters to be completed in one year full-time.

Master of Engineering: offers eligible engineering graduates the choice of broadening their knowledge and skills across a broad based program of advanced study or through specialisation in the following streams. For the Program List follow this link to the University's Programs and Courses database.

Alternatively undergraduate students entering engineering can undertake a 5-year program leading to a BE/ME.  This is an exciting program aimed at producing graduates with a competitive edge who are specialist biomedical engineers.  In this program students complete a BE in either Electrical or Biomedical or Computer Systems Engineering. In their 5th ME year, students study specific courses that total #24 units (or #16 if students have completed the Biomed minor).

The School also offers the Master of Science (Computer Science): designed for graduates in ICT who are interested in advancing their careers or upgrading in a specific area such as  information systems, software engineering, computer systems (design and programming of Internet services, computer networks, distributed computing), multimedia and cognitive science. For the Program List follow this link to the University's Programs and Courses database.

Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma options are also available in these programs.

Further information on fees, scholarships and other relevant information, as well as information on the School's other postgraduate coursework programs including the Master of Interaction Design and the Master of Information Technology (the latter suitable for students with a background in other disciplines who wish to acquire skills in ICT) is available by following the links from the Study@ITEE page.
