26 May 2011 Congratulations to Dr Tobi Grundgeiger on PhD award
We congratulate Tobi on the award of his PhD. Tobi is now on the faculty of the Institut fur Experimentelle Psychologie at Heinrich-Heine Universitat in Dusseldorf, Germany.
10 March 2011 Matt Thompson awarded Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship
Matt is awarded a Fulbright to conduct research in the USA next year at University of California, LA, on fingerprint evidence. Matt's PhD Principal Advisor is Dr Jason Tangen; Sanderson is Associate Advisor.
28 Feb 2011 Dr David Liu awarded Dean's Commendation for his PhD thesis
Dave's thesis is recognised under the Dean's Commendation for Outstanding RHD Theses scheme. Only the top 10% of UQ RHD theses receive such an award, based on examiners' reports and school endorsement.

12-13 Jan 2011 Brisbane floods spare CERG Laboratory and UQUL
It was predicted that our laboratory area would be 1.2 meters under water, but peak levels were lower than predicted. However several CERG people were personally affected by flooding. (Click for photos of UQ areas).
19 Dec 2010 Tobi Grundgeiger submits PhD thesis
Working for the last few months from his native Germany, Tobi submits his PhD. His topic is 'distributed prospective memory', including how nurses handle interruptions and distractions in the intensive care unit.

In an important milestone towards his PhD, David Crone submits his thesis, which is about how we select measures to evaluate technical changes in complex systems. His focus is the Black Hawk helicopter. (Click for more)

Penny Sanderson and Dr Bala Venkatesh are awarded an ARC DP to investigate prospective methods for determining the impact and effectiveness of new healthcare information and communication technology. Success rate of applications was 21.4%.

Drs Sanderson, Watson, Russell, Morris, Taraporewalla and Jenkins are awarded Queensland's only NHMRC Development Grant for "Clinical Trials of Respiratory Sonification". Success rate of applications was 17.5%.
17 Sept 2007 Congratulations to Xilin Li on HFES paper prize
Xilin's paper won 1st place in the student paper contest of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society's Cognitive Engineering and Decision Making Technical Group. (Second time Xilin has won a "best paper" during her PhD.)

Watson and Sanderson win the USA-based Human Factors and Ergonomics Society's 2005  Jerome Ely Award for the Best Paper in the journal Human Factors in 2004. The paper is based on Watson's PhD thesis, supervised by Sanderson.

In November 2004 Grant funding success for CERG researchers in healthcare areas
CERG researchers are awarded two grants in the healthcare area: (1) Dr Miller receives an ANZCA research grant for 2005 (with B. Venkatesh and A. Limpus at Princess Alexandra Hospital) and (2) Prof Sanderson, Dr Watson, and Prof Russell (Royal Adelaide Hospital) receive an ARC Discovery Project grant for 2005-2007.

14 October 2004 Trailblazers competition success
Dr Marcus Watson and Prof Sanderson are winners in UniQuest's Trailblazers competition, in which UQ research innovations are recognised for their potential commercial value and are  given financial support to be realised. The project relates to auditory displays for monitoring depth of anesthesia.

Alex Wee starts her PhD this week at CERG. Alex completed her Bachelor of IT (Hons) at UQ in 2003 with a thesis on sonification and auditory alarms in anaesthesia. Alex will work with Prof Sanderson in the area of auditory displays.
