It is just one part of the underground cyber economy which is thriving on the "sale" of compromised computers and stolen personal data of value. This presentation looks at the trends in online ID theft - how Australian Internet users are being actively targeted; what are the components that facilitate such attacks and why they are so difficult to prevent and respond to. --------------- Bio AusCERT is Australia's national computer emergency response team, based at the University of Queensland. AusCERT is at the forefront of monitoring and reporting on new computer vulnerabilities, threats and Internet based attacks. AusCERT is able to provide a unique perspective on a range of Internet based attacks affecting the Australian networks and the Internet using community. Kathryn Kerr, as AusCERT's Manager, Analysis and Assessments, has written a number of papers for AusCERT on online ID theft and is responsible for AusCERT's contribution to the annual Australian Computer Crime and Security Surveys. www.auscert.org.au/crimesurvey Prior to joining AusCERT, Kathryn spent 12 years with the Commonwealth government in Canberra in various security intelligence related positions.
