I am an MPhil student in ITEE at the University of Queensland. I graduated from Electrical Engineering (Computer Systems) here at UQ in 1995, and from Applied Science (Physics) at Central Queensland University in 2001. I also have 13 years of industry experience in electrical engineering and software engineering.
Outside of ITEE, I am also involved with:
- Lead developer for the Kowari Project. (An Open Source, scalable, RDF database).
- Committee member for the Queensland chapter of the IEE.
- Recently joined as a committee member for the Queensland section of the IEEE.
My current research interests are:
- Scalable RDF storage.
- Logic inferencing from ontologies.
- Rules systems.
- Ontology completeness.

Possible Future Research
OWL has a number of shortcomings which prevent it from describing a number of simple relationships. Similarly, most ontology languages are incapable of being used for general inferencing on disparate domains, particularly if nothing is known about the domain before the inferencing system is to be built.
I am interested in approaches which will permit inferencing across knowledge domains without foreknowledge of their taxonomies or ontologies. I discuss this a little more here.
Other Disciplines
Ever since Shor and Grover's work in the mid 1990's I have been fascinated with quantum computing. This was the impetus for my physics degree. I hope one day to do postgraduate research in this area.
Hobbies and interests
