Conclusion

We have shown how you can build your own phased array coil using the overlapping method for MRI application by firstly designing it in FEKO. From FEKO simulation, we obtained the optimum overlapping distant when no splitting of the resonance frequency is observed in the S11 response  With this distant, we will then have a rough idea of what overlapping distant we can begin with when undertaking the actual construction rather than blindly guessing the overlapping distant.

From the SENSE section, we have shown how easily you can obtain the sensitivity profile which  is the magnetic field strength in the near field calculated by FEKO to run a SENSE simulation. The 4 layered dielectric sphere created using the GF card have the advantages of independently setting the radius of each layer and the also the conductivity, permittivity and permeability, which approximately represent a human head. (Note that an accurate head model can be purchase from FEKO).  Lastly, the magnetic field data can be easily abstracted from the FEKO out file and used in Matlab.

In conclusion, we have demonstrated how FEKO is been used in assisting research work from the magnetic resonance engineering aspect, a departure from the normal paradigm where FEKO is usually employ to solve electromagnetic problem in the antennas and propagation engineering area.
