SHORTCOURSE ON INTRODUCTION TO CONCEPTUAL DATA ANALYSIS February 12/13/15, 1997 @ The University of Adelaide Dr. Frank Vogt, Arbeitsgruppe Allgemeine Algebra und Diskrete Mathematik Fachbereich Mathematik Technische Hochschule Darmstadt Dr. Frank Vogt is the author of the TOSCANA program for formal concept analysis and will be coming to Adelaide for a month in Feb 1997. I have asked Frank to give a short course on Formal Concept Analysis and TOSCANA while he is here. Such a course would be over 3 days on Feb 12/13/14 and a description is attached. Most of us are already indoctrinated to this technology but if you are a sceptic now, you won't be after doing this course... highly recommended. The cost is $400 or free for UA students. For students from other institutions the cost is $200. _______________________________________________________________________ Peter W. These data contain structures which can be unfolded by Conceptual Data Analysis and represented graphically as conceptual hierarchies. Thus, it is possible to analyse complex structures and to recognize interdependences, which allows an interpretation of the contents immediately on the basis of the original data. A central instrument of Conceptual Data Analysis are Conceptual Data Systems, which have proved helpful in many fields of application. Their aim is the representation and communication of data and knowledge. By means of an adequate graphical representation, Conceptual Data Systems allow a clear and understandable representation of hardly comprehensible data, support rational communication, and increase the efficiency of decisions. Depending on the circumstances, Conceptual Data Systems can be used to analyse the structures of data or to retrieve information within a conceptually structured environment. During the course, basic notions and methods of Conceptual Data Analysis as well as of Formal Concept Analysis, the mathematical theory in the backgroud, will be introduced. Further, the implementation of Conceptual Data Systems via the computer programs TOSCANA and Anaconda will be discussed. Exercises will give the possibility to practice the methods and understand thereby the introduced notions. The participants will have the possibility to work with TOSCANA and Anaconda in order to get some experience with Conceptual Data Systems. - - - -- Dr. Frank Vogt Tel. : x49-6151-16-3087 Arbeitsgruppe Allgemeine Algebra Secr. : x49-6151-16-4686 und Diskrete Mathematik FAX : x49-6151-16-4011 Fachbereich Mathematik e-mail: vogt@mathematik.th-darmstadt.de Technische Hochschule Darmstadt Schlossgartenstrasse 7 D-64289 Darmstadt, Germany ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- REGISTRATION FORM The Department of Computer Science attn: Peter Eklund The University of Adelaide Adelaide 5005 SA, Australia Telephone +61-8-3034483 Facsimile: +61-8-3034366 email: peter@cs.adelaide.edu.au ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TITLE: _________________ FAMILY NAME: ______________________________ GIVEN NAMES: ______________________________ INSTITUTION/COMPANY: _______________________ ADDRESS: __________________________________ POSTCODE: ______________ COUNTRY: _______________ TELPHONE: ______________ FAX: ___________________ EMAIL: _________________ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- REGISTRATION PAYMENT (PLEASE CIRCLE ONE OPTION BELOW) FEE Full $400 Other Students $200 UA Students Free TOTAL (A$) _______________ PLEASE DEBIT MY: (CIRCLE ONE) MASTERCARD VISACARD CARD No:_______________________________________ AMOUNT A$ _____________________________________ EXPIRY DATE ___________________________________ SIGNATURE _____________________________________ STUDENTS FROM OTHER UNIVERSITIES: In order to obtain a student rate you must have the following statement signed by the Head of Department/Faculty: I certify that _____________________________________ is a full time student in my Department.
