I was too hasty - I see that my directions on the web do include 
enabling the ethernet driver.  So, either you have forgotten this step, 
or there's some other problem.

Can you check in the directory linux-2.4.x/drivers/net/xilinx_emac, and 
see if there are object (*.o) files in there?

If not, then you have just forgotten to enable the driver, see my 
instructions in the previous post.

If they are there, then there's something stranger going on - let us 
know and we'll work it out.
