LXT970 it's only the PHY (physical) connection chip, if you want yo go
this way you need the MAC (media access controller) inside the FPGA -
with the CS8900 it's a different story it's small chip and the driver is
already  in uClinux - unfortunately it's slow (10Mb) another interesting
option is the LAN91C111 which is MAC/PHY 10/100 and has a driver
