yashi,

maybe it's just a design decision. if i'm not wrong the x86 kernels do it
on their own (even uncompress themselves), and the microblaze kernel does
it on her own.

but if we plan to deploy and boot other things than kernel (for example a
complex bootloader with networking/flash writing capabilities, or a
hardware test program) having these init stuff done by a boot loader might
ease our life.
