It sounds like there's some subtle bug lurking - it may come back to 
bite you in the future, but at least you can proceed for now.

Download speed is improved because the jtag connection to the host is 
much faster than the uartlite.

Strange - it would be worth trying to get a more precise idea of the 
cause - time or keystrokes etc.

This is probably the bug that is already known - dump and paste a 
reasonable amount of text into the terminal software (hyperterm or 
whatever) - it can make the uartlite driver hang.   Search the mailing 
list archives, Yashi posted a patch for it a month or so ago, but there 
are still some issues to be worke dout before we apply it to the CVS.
