[microblaze-uclinux] Optimizing in uBlaze

Does anyone know why the program:

int main(void) { int i; i = 5; return 0;}

is 520 bytes of code when I compile it with the EDK tools?  Does
anyone have any better compilers I could play with?  Or ideas for
optimization (other than telling the compiler to optimize... which
doesnt work)?
