[microblaze-uclinux] Broadcom 5461

Hi folks,

The latest batch of Insight V2MB1000 boards that we received shipped
with Version2 of the P160 Comms module - one of the differences from the
original is the change to a broadcom 5461 10/100/1000 ethernet transeiver.

According the Insight's documentation, the only change required to use
this new device with existing designs (at 10/100) is to swap a pair of
pins, but I've tried this and it seems there's more to it than that. I
resurrected my old phy_test program that dumps the MII registers, and I
get 0xFFFFFFFF values for all registers, which is clearly wrong. So,
somehow, the MII channel between the Xilinx emac core, and the BCM5461,
is broken.

I suspect I need to force the 5461 into a 10/100 MII mode, rather than
the GMII that is used for GigEthernet. Unfortunately, in their wisdom
Broadcom don't seem to make available the datasheet for this part.

Before I spend too much time on this, has anyone had any success getting
this new P160 comms board going with the Xilinx ethernet MAC, and/or the
standard mbvanilla platform?

Thanks,

John
