I've run EDK/ISE on RedHat8.0, 9.0, and Fedora Core 2 (a 2.6 kernel). 
There's an environment var - LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.7 (or something like 
that) that must be set for installation.  There's also the minor 
tweaking that Jan-Hendrik mentioned for the setup scripts.

Unfortunately, the Xilinx parallel port/jtag driver doesn't build under 
2.6.  They use windrvr fior it, who have not yet released a 2.6 
compatible driver wrapper (or not last time I'd looked).

However, the actual synthesis tools etc run fine.
