All I can say here is "yes please!"

I'm not familiar with u-boot's architecture, but perhaps we can look at 
similar autoconfig ideas as are now in the kernel?  So that essentially 
the same bootloader can be trivially retargeted to any microblaze board? 
  It will probably need some stuff that's not currently captured by 
autoconfig, like flash partition tables, ethernet MAC addresses and so 
on, but this might be a good opportunity to push that stuff in anyway.

Do you guys mind cc:ing discussions on this to the mb-uclinux list?
