Hi,
I tried with another COM port on the same PC and now it works!! The 
first COM was on
a PCI add on card, while the second COM is integrated on the motherboard.

I suspect the point is the uartlite frequency on my spartan3 is not 100% 
correct.
Xuartlite doesn't ROUND the calculated ratio, instead it TRUNCATE:

constant RATIO : integer := C_CLK_FREQ / (16 * C_BAUDRATE);

On my board C_CLK_FREQ is 53333333 (80MHz / 1.5) and BAUDRATE 115200 so
the ratio is 28.935185 truncated to 28. This ratio lead to a real baud 
rate of 119047.6
with an error of 3.34%. Some COM port tolerate such an error, someone not

Would it be better to change xuartlite to round instead of truncate??

Something like:
constant RATIO : integer := ( C_CLK_FREQ + 8 * C_BAUDRATE) / (16 * 
C_BAUDRATE);

I'll rebuild the bit stream with this change and try with the first COM 
port, the one that lead
to all the errors.

However the mystery is why did the lsz command worked with text files? 
The text file has msbit 0,
this is last bit transmitted before stop, may be it helps to have last 
transmitted bit 0?
