RE: [microblaze-uclinux] problems with download image.bin for kernel 2.6

Hi Moises,

Appart from those two things I had to enable under Kernel Options - Device drivers - Character devices (I think this is the root but I'm not sure because I don't have the Linux machine at the moment) the first option of the list, something about "Virtual...", and then, in the two new options that appear, the first one. Continueing down the list I think that appears the "Serial drivers" that Tobi talked abuot.

Good luck with this. However if you continue with problems I can pass you my full configuration because it works.

Regards

Raúl

someone has solved this problem??, please let me know what you did
i tried with Tobi solution:
"under Kernel Options - Device Drivers - Character devices - Serial drivers - select both "Xilinx uartlite serial port support" and "Support for console on Xilinx uartlite serial port"."

but the same errors happend, and i tried with John Williams solution:

"Please double check in your kernel config under kernel -> debugging that the "early printk uart" base address is set correctly to the address of your uartlite."

but i have still the same problem

another solution?
thanks

Apologies if I'm repeating this, under Kernel Options - Device Drivers - Character devices - Serial drivers - select both "Xilinx uartlite serial port support" and "Support for console on Xilinx uartlite serial port". If the second one isn't selected, your output will disappear right after the "New klimit" message.
  Cheers,
  tOBi.

      Hi,

Could you let me know what configuration did you change to get this fixed? I have the same problem and am still struggling with it.

 Thanks,

 Simon

 Hi Michal,

Thanks for your help, I had the same problem and I have finally been able to fix it.

You were right, and the problem was not that "nothing happened" but, what happened was not displayed. It seems that in the 2.6 kernel the defaul option is not to output the console through the UART. I have changed some configuration about this (I exactly don´t know where, I must look for it now ;-) ) and now it works fine.

 Thanks again.

 Raúl

 1. Kernel 2.6 is good choice.

 2. Yes, .config files from 2.4 and 2.6 are different

 3. nothing happens? I think that a lot of things happen but you don't
have output on console. Be sure that you have correct setting for your
serial driver. I hope you use uartlite.

 4. test Memory only tells you that the memory seem works properly - this
test is very simple and covers only small amount of faults.

 5. Do you use U-BOOT? U-BOOT helps you testing your design more
carefully and helps you with booting kernel.
If you use U-BOOT I recommend you check the log_buf of kernel

 # cat System.map | grep __log_buf (output is memory address)
 output is 441bf650

in U-BOOT you can see output like this.

If you see linux kernel log - you win. Your serial driver is not
 configured properly.
