At this stage PetaLinux targets MicroBlaze only. The 2.6 kernel tree
does include a full snapshot of the standard 2.6.20 PPC and POWERPC
architectures, which you could build. However, none of the Xilinx PPC
-specific support and patches have been merged in.

You would create a vendors/XXX/YYY config.arch file that sets the CPU
architecture to be powerpc, for starters. That would tell the
petalinux-dist build system to build a PPC kernel, not microblaze.
But, as I said there'll be a lot of extra work still to do after that.
You might like to have a look at Grant Likely's PPC git tree, and
subscribe to the linuxppc-embedded mailing list, that's the home of most
of this sort of discussion.
As a final comment, I would dearly love to add PPC support into
PetaLinux, it's just a question of bandwidth. I am flat out supporting
MicroBlaze right now, the idea of doubling my workload makes no sense.
Regards,
John
