Either your or (more likely) the other side has a flawed auto-negotiation algorithm
for select 10/100 & half/full duplex. I have seen this on a NetBSD box some 10 years
ago when I implemented this in a VxWorks ethernet driver reading the Intel (or was
it Digital) spec for NWay. I even sent some DLink switches (the NetBSD was equipped
with a DLink nic) the same way... :)
