The main thing I've done to this (in additions to improvements from
Xilinx since the first release) is to build gcc and glibc against the
PetaLinux 2.6.20 kernel headers. In the earlier release we had a
built against 2.6.13 headers, which while not causing obvious problems
was still not correct when targeting a 2.6.20 kernel.
I have a few quick questions about the 2.4 kernel tree:
* can you give me a sense of how actively it's being maintained and
tested?
Bug reports and fixes against 2.4 kernels will still be acted upon, but
I'm not personally doing any new development in that kernel, writing new
drivers etc.
* has everything (e.g. bugfixes, driver development, support) shifted
wholesale to 2.6?
Certainly the focus is on 2.6, and that is the recommendation I make to
PetaLogix customers for example.
* do you anticipate this changing, particularly as you focus on
getting 2.6 integrated into mainline?
I don't see 2.4 going away any time soon, but I think the advantages of
2.6 will make it an increasingly more compelling choice, particularly as
the real time stuff starts to be merged in mainline.
As part of the push to kernel.org for the MicroBlaze arch, I'm looking
at ways to make PetaLinux more responsive in terms of kernel versions.
We've been on 2.6.20 for a while now and it's working well, but there
are new developments that we should be taking advantage of. Getting
into the mainline tree will be a good step towards that.
Thanks again for all your work!
You're welcome, I glad you find it useful. Thanks also to the others
who are involved, and particularly Michal for his legwork on getting
MicroBlaze into shape for kernel.org.
Regards,
John
