I have done some improvements on the uartlite driver:
* less function calls in the ISR routine
* proper use of the FIFOs
This just pushes the hang of the process further away. But it will eventually show
up anyway. I can also improve the userland application and get another improvement
of the number of iterations. But the hang is always there... :(
I'll have to fire up the evaluation board to get hold of a ethernet port for remote
debugging of the kernel. The current board lacks that feature on the Microblaze
softcore.
