Re: [microblaze-uclinux] PetaLinux build: I am very confused, please clarify??

I would be *very* pleased to see those scripts!!

I have a split environment running. I have a couple very short scripts

the systems, but there's no reason it couldn't work with FTP or other
transport machanism. When I get in to work, I can send them to you.

I've had the 0.3 reference design working fine in a split environment, with a Slackware 12.2 machine running the SW side, and a Windows XP running everything Xilinx. This was done by creating a shared folder on the Windows machine, and then mounting this over the network under the Petalinux 'hardware' folder, and re-extracting the package. As far as I can see the userguide wants you to use the shared drive for all the files, but I had some initial problems with symlinks (present for instance in the Linux kernel folders) not working in my Windows folder - and this seemed like the quickest solution;)

I only used this to play around with the reference designs though - don't know if the HW development requires some of the SW files when you're going to do more custom stuff...?

Okay, Thank you Michal and Ken!!
Now that I'm re-reading the Custom Tutorial link that Ken sent, I realize
that I read it before, but it just didn't mean anything to me at the time; I
understand it better now.

I also realize why they were saying that we *had* to use the Linux version
of the EDK, which we are not currently using.  I wonder if it will work on a
Linux running as a VirtualBox guest platform??  That's how I'm running Linux
now.  I'll have to look into that.

Thank you again for the responses; it looks like we *will* have to buy a
second Xilinx installation here so I can do this work.

That's not entirely necessary - if you look in the
developer.petalogix.com documentation, there is a page under "Advanced
topics" called non-standard installations.  It provides some notes for
how you can use a Xilinx-on-Windows / PetaLinux-on-Linux working
environment.

It's certainly doable, but not recommend until you have a good
understanding of the linkages between the HW and SW flows (as Michal
was describing).

Regards,

John
