[microblaze-uclinux] problem with xilinx device drivers



hi ,all.
In  xilinx document "device driver programmer guide", there is the discription as below.
"The layered architecture accommodates the many use cases of device drivers while at the same time providing protability across operating systems,toolsets ,and processors.The layered architecture provides seamless integration with an RTOS(layer 2),an abstract device driver interface that is full-featured and portable across operating systems and processors(layer 1),and a direct hardware interface for simple use cases or those wishing to develop a custom device driver.~~~"
 I am  confused with this .
Can I mix-use the layer1 device driver functions and driect hardware interface functions in the same c program??
 
Is the layer 2 RTOS adapter the special device driver in operating system such as framebuffer driver?
And If I have ported the embeded operating system petalinux , can I use the layer 1 device driver functions and/or driect hardware interface functions in the program??  If yes , how to use ?
 Any hints deeply grateful
