The 2.4 and 2.6 kernels build very different programs to for the
'xconfig' process.

As I said originally, you need the -devel variant of QT as well.  You
need the development libraries and header files, not just the runtime.
 make xconfig compiles the configuration program before running it -
you need the devel headers.
