Prof. Marek E. Bialkowski received the M.Eng.Sc degree (1974) in applied mathematics and the Ph.D. degree (1979) in telecommunications both from the Warsaw University of Technology and the Doctor of Engineering (higher doctorate) degree (2000) in computer science and electrical engineering from the University of Queensland. 

He has been on the academic staff at the University of Queensland since 1989. His other academic and research appointments included Warsaw University of Technology (Poland), University College Dublin (Ireland), James Cook University (Australia), University of Southampton (UK), University of Victoria (Canada), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and City University (Hong Kong).  

His research interests include technologies and signal processing techniques for smart antennas, switched beam and phased array antennas for satellite communications, low profile antennas for reception of satellite broadcast TV programs, electromagnetic modelling of microwave circuits, conventional and spatial power combining techniques of solid-state devices, six-port vector network analysers and industrial applications of microwaves. In these areas, he has published 340 technical papers and one book. Also he holds one patent. His contributions to the University of Queensland have been recognized by granting him a Professorial Research Fellow (Personal Research Chair) appointment.

He is a Fellow of the IEEE, member of editorial boards for the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques and the Microwave and Optical Technology Letters.
