Apart from our long historical background in high frequency communications our long list of more than 40 higher degree graduates are now employed in many of the key industries or Government organisations in Australia or overseas. These include Codan, Filtronic, Micreo and EM Solutions in Brisbane, DSTO (in Adelaide), CSIRO, DSD, British Aerospace (Adelaide), Hughes Research Labs (USA), NoiseCOM USA, CSA Wireless UK, CSSIP (Adelaide and Brisbane). Our graduates are now on academic staff in Melbourne University, RMIT (Melbourne), NUS and NTU (Singapore). These companies and institutions in turn deal with all aspects of the technology base in which we teach and research. It is from this group that MITEC Ltd, the first Australian RF microwave component house, was set up under Prof Gunn. This company was one of the early examples of spin–off know-how and we still retain our strong links with the personnel that have since migrated to it’s successor companies.
At present, there is a strong and
healthy, rapidly growing, microwave industry in South East Queensland: (Codan,
Filtronic, Micreo, EMSolutions). Most of the leading engineering staff in these
companies are former members and graduates of the MPS Group. Furthermore, there
are a number of research centres in related fields that use our expertise or are
interested in employing our postgraduates for development or research work.
