Aleksandar D. Rakic holds Dipl.-Ing. (BE Hons.) degree in Electrical Engineering/Engineering Physics and M.Eng.Sci. in Optoelectronics and Laser Engineering both from the University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, and PhD in Electrical Engineering from The University of Queensland. He is currently a Senior Lecturer within the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Queensland.

His research interests include ultrahigh-bandwidth optical communications, optical interconnections for digital computers, design of photonic devices and materials, algorithms for computer aided design of photonic devices and the design of automated (computer controlled) systems for photonic and RF measurements.   Dr. Rakic has made significant contributions in the filed of modelling of materials for high-speed photonic devices.  His models are now being used by a number of research groups in Europe, US and Japan for photonic device modelling and device growth control.  Dr Rakic co-authored more than 60 research articles in international journals and conference proceedings and one book chapter.   

He is a member of the IEEE, IEEE LEOS.
