Biography

 

Tapan Kumar Saha was graduated with a B. Sc Engineering (Electrical and Electronic) Degree from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1982, with a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) New Delhi, India in 1984 and with a PhD Degree (in Electrical Engineering) from the University of Queensland in January 1994. Prof. Saha completed Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Queensland in 1997.

After obtaining his Masters Degree he went back to Bangladesh and taught at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, BUET, Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 1985 to August 1988. Initially He was a Lecturer from January 1985 to June 1986 and then Assistant Professor from July 1986 to August 1988.

After teaching three and a half years in the Bangladesh University, he went to the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada (With a NSERC Scholarship) in September 1988 to obtain his PhD Degree. After spending two semesters (where he completed five graduate subjects) at the University of Saskatchewan, He migrated to Australia in June 1989. He joined the University of Queensland for his PhD Degree in July 1989. At the U of Q he was a postgraduate student and a Tutorial Assistant till June 1993. He obtained his PhD in electrical engineering in January 1994.

Dr. Saha also taught in the School of  Engineering, James Cook University of North Queensland, Townsville, Australia from July 1993 to December 1995. He was a Lecturer in the department.

Presently he is Professor of Electrical Engineering in the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, University of Queensland . He joined the then Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Queensland as a Lecturer on 2nd of January 1996. His research interests are in the area of Power Systems Simulation, Electricity market issues, Power Quality and Condition Monitoring of electrical plants. He has published widely in different national and international Journals and Conferences.

He is a Fellow (CPEng) of the Institution of Engineers Australia, a Senior Member of the IEEE (USA). He has been very active with CIGRE and IEEE Queensland Section activities. He was born in Bangladesh (click here) and studied in Bangladesh, India, Canada and Australia. Now he is a citizen of Australia.
