Understanding software documents using visual techniques

Abstract:Understanding the software documents which represent large, complex
software systems is a crucial component of the development,
maintenance and re-engineering processes. One of the main reasons
it is hard to understand software is because software artifacts
(documents) are not inherently tangible.
Visualisation of these documents is one technique which can be used
to help understand the complex relationships which exist in software
systems. Making visualisations directly manipulatable allows for
immediate visual feedback when manipulating the semantics of a
software system.
This research will provide a set of techniques which harnesses the
power of visualisation and visual programming to enable better
understanding of the documents which make up software.
Biography:Daniel Jarrott received the degree of Bachelor of Information
Technology from the University of Queensland in 2001. Currently he
is undertaking PhD research in area of understanding software
documents using visual techniques at the University of Queensland.
