Abstract:

With recent advances in Internet and Web technologies, more and more
information become available on the Internet and Web. At the same
time, the overwhelming global access to information over the World
Wide Web raises a number of research issues on design and management
of Web-based information systems in order to provide efficient
query/information retrieval as well as the management of Internet
information.

In this talk we will discuss Web-based information retrieval & Web
community. Current web search mainly depend s on search
engines. Users send search queries, usually in query terms or
keywords, to a search engine, and the search engine returns
searching results (URLs) to the users. Though many search engines
become more and more powerful in searching the web, in many cases,
the returned search results are still a large information source
from which it is difficult for users to find the required
information. Therefore, how to effectively and efficiently manage
and retrieve web information is becoming a challenge problem.

One way to solve this problem is to narrow the concerned information
space by finding structures or similarities among the retrieved
pages and constructing a new web information space or
community. Another way is to re-organize or cluster the web pages by
finding their intrinsic relationships.

This talk will present some research results on how to construct a
good web community and cluster web pages according to their linkage
and semantic relationship.
