Modelling Time in Databases
Speaker: Bela Stantic, Griffith University
When: 2004-08-19 14:00:00
Venue: 78-420
Host: Dr Guido Governatori
Abstract:Snapshot databases are not adequate for applications that require
modelling of time-dependent data. The need for temporal dimension is
evident in many real world applications such as personnel,
accounting, scientific, medical, etc. In this talk basic concepts
and a brief survey of research on temporal database systems will be
highlighted, particularly issues related to current time or
'now’. Results of the recent work in temporal relational environment
will be presented and presentation will conclude with results from
ongoing work in XML-temporal.
Biography:Bela Stantic is a Lecturer at the School of Information Technology,
Griffith University. His research interests are in Temporal and
Spatio-temporal databases, more specifically in relation to Access
Methods and issues with storing current time in databases in
general. He has a considerable experience in the Database Systems
from working in industry, research and academia. He is currently
IIIS (Institute for Integrated and Intelligent Systems) web
publicity chair and database group chair.
