An integrated approach to semi-automated software refactoring

Speaker: Erica Glynn, ITEE

When: 2005-08-29 09:00:00

Venue: 78-622

Host: A/Prof Paul Strooper

Abstract:

Refactoring can improve the quality of software through better
readability, understandability, maintainability, and changeability.
Tools now exist to perform automated, source-to-source
transformations to implement specific refactorings, however these
tools can only be used once an opportunity for refactoring has been
identified and an appropriate course of action has been selected by
the developer. In this project it will be shown that an integrated,
user-guided mechanism for the detection, proposal and application of
refactorings provides better support to software developers than
existing techniques.
