Abstract:

Deploying sensor networks for building smart environments is gaining
widespread attention. Diversity in the range of applications and
complexity in terms of size and structure has introduced potential
challenges to the research community. Energy limitation in sensor
network is one serious constraint that has paved way for exciting
research in areas such as sensor node design, network design,
communication setup, query propagation and data acquisition. This
research focuses on query dissemination issues in sensor networks
that are deployed for certain telemetric applications. The research
plans to address issues concerning segmentation of such a network
for efficiently processing some special investigative queries. This
research takes the application of sensor networks for urban water
management as motivation as the application represents a class of
similar applications where flow of certain parameters such as water,
chemical or gas needs to monitored. The application gives raise to
challenging problems to the database community especially data
representation, query propagation and data acquisition. This
research aims at addressing these issues and solving the problems in
the query dissemination domain.
