Abstract:

Transmission expansion planning (TEP) is an important process for
electric utilities. It consists of defining when and where new
transmission networks are needed and how they can be installed. TEP
helps utilities to determine an optimal planning strategy in
competitive electricity market environment.

Following the deregulation of power industry, the need for
probabilistic evaluation of power system has been recognized and
emphasized. There are some probabilistic planning methods in the
literature. However, in the real world, many transmission companies
and other electric utilities are still using deterministic
methods. The aim of this research is to develop an advanced
probabilistic TEP method in a continually changing market
environment. The significance of this research will be shown by its
comprehensiveness and powerful practicability. This method will be
able to improve the power system efficiency and reliability with
consideration of financial risks in an electricity market.

Biography:

Miao Lu obtained her Master of Information Technology degree from
Griffith University, Australia in 2003 and B.E. in Electrical
Engineering from North China Electrical Power University in
1998. She is now pursuing her PhD in Electrical Engineering degree
at The School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering,
The University of Queensland, Australia. Her research interests
include power system analysis, power system planning, reliability
assessment and risk management, and power system computations.
