Fault Tolerant High Speed Acquisition
Speaker: Simon Finlayson, ITEE

Host: Prof. Neil Bergmann
Abstract:Hypersonic test vehicles require extensive data acquisition in order
to accurately determine the performance of the engine. The ever
increasing speed of these vehicles also places new constraints on
data manipulation and system control. Recent advances in the field
of reconfigurable computing lend themselves to a new methodology for
applications that require high speed data acquisition and
control. The research will focus on the application of
reconfigurable technology in distributed data acquisition systems.
Biography:Simon Finlayson is a graduate of the Australian Defence Force
Academy. He received his BSc (Phys) in Dec 2000 where he served in
the Australian Army. In private industry he has worked extensively
on the design of numerous data acquisition systems primarily for the
mining and process industries. His involvement with the Hyshot
program has included lead hardware design on the development of the
Australian Flight Computer System, payload integration and
instrumentation. He is currently enrolled part-time in an MPhil
research degree at the University of Queensland.
