Abstract:Sensor Networks - What are they?
Why should you be interested in them?
What is CSIRO doing in this space?
How can you be involved?

Biography:Shondip Sen is a Post Doctoral Fellow at CSIRO who is presently
conducting research into abstraction layers and programming models
for Sensor Networks. His interest in sensor networks was sparked at
a time when wireless networks were still new and the cost of
embedded processors were tending towards zero. Previously, he was a
member of the Computer Architecture group at University of Bristol
in England for 5 years where he completed his PhD with support from
a Hewlett-Packard scholarship. For his PhD, he developed a novel
routing algorithm for mobile ad-hoc networks to support multi-hop
communication in highly dynamic urban environments without requiring
an infrastructure backbone. His other interests have included but
are not limited to ubiquitous computing, software mobility and
computer architecture - particularly systolic arrays, single chip
multi-cores, interconnects and other exotic methods for doing
computation cheaper, faster, cooler.
