Advanced Control of Wind Turbines to Facilitate Their Bulk Penetration in Large Power Grid

Abstract:

The aim of this project is to develop advanced control strategies for wind
turbines (WT) that will enable effective integration of the wind farms with
the utility grid. Suppression Effective grid integration implies that the
farm should be able to contribute to voltage support and recovery following
network faults, aid frequency control and also improve power system damping
to mitigate inter-area oscillations. In this work a mixed sensitivity based
robust H-infinity controller has been designed for successful tracking of
active and reactive power from a doubly fed induction generator integrated
with a wind turbine. Model reduction technique is employed to reduce the
controller size for practical implementation and the reduced controller is
tested with full non linear model of DFIG-WT system.
