*To advance the research in multimedia search and database management with novel applications*

Heng Tao is a Professor of Computer Science and an ARC Future Fellow in the School of Information Technology & Electrical Engineering (ITEE) at the University of Queensland (UQ). He obtained his BSc with 1st class Honours and PhD from Department of Computer Science, National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2000 and 2004 respectively. He then joined the University of Queensland as a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader, and became a Professor in late 2011. His research interests mainly include Multimedia/Mobile/Web Search, and Big Data Management on spatial, temporal, multimedia and social media databases. Heng Tao has extensively published and served on program committees in most prestigious international publication venues of interests. He received the Chris Wallace Award for outstanding Research Contribution in 2010 conferred by Computing Research and Education Association, Australasia. He is currently an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering (TKDE), and will serve as a PC Co-Chair for ACM Multimedia 2015. He holds a position of Visiting Professor in Nagoya University.

  • Big Data Management (data reduction, integration, clustering, indexing, query processing, etc)

  • *UQ_VIDEO*: A real-world large-scale video dataset used for near-duplicate retrieval. It contains about 150,000 web videos. Queries and their goundtruth are provided for performance evaluation. This dataset has been used in our ACM Multiemdia 2011 paper. Read me and download it.

    *UQLIPS*: A real-time near-duplicate video detection and retrieval system. It won the Highly Commended Open Award 2007 by UniQuest in recognition of its commercial potential. Part of the research results also received the Best Paper Award in APWeb 2010.
