Approval of industry certification courses for credit
Students in certain programs within the School of ITEE, may be granted up to a maximum of #4 elective credit in total for approved industry certifications which are current at the time of graduation. Credit will only be possible if the student has elective credit space within their program.
Students need to register directly with SAS (see the link in Note 1 below) and upon completion should seek approval to claim the credit by submitting an Applications for credit which will be assessed by the EAIT Faculty. As part of that process a valid original certificate or certified copy where the expiry date is no earlier than the student’s graduation date (or date of conferral of the degree) must be included with the application. Certifications without an expiry date must have been obtained within 3 years prior to the graduation date. Applications for credit can take up to 4 weeks to process.
Programs in which credit (max #4 total except where stated) may be available are:
- Bachelor of Computer Science (but not BCompSc honours and not BCompSc dual degrees; max #2 credit, courses considered as part D courses)
- Bachelor of Information Technology (but not BInfTech honours and not BInfTech dual degrees; courses considered equivalent to level 2 part D courses)
- Bachelor of Multimedia Design (but not BMultMedDes honours; courses considered equivalent to level 2 part B courses)
- Master of Information Technology (courses considered as part D courses)
- Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (max #2 credit, courses considered as part D courses)
- Master of Information Technology (Management) (courses considered as part D courses)
- Master of Interaction Design (courses considered as part D courses)
- Graduate Diploma in Interaction Design (max #2 credit, courses considered as part D courses)
- Graduate Diploma in Computer Science (max #2 credit, course considered as elective)
- Master of Computer Science (max #2 credit, course considered as elective)
- Master of Computer Science (Management) (max #2 credit, course considered as elective)
- Master of Data Science (SAS courses only - max of #2credit, course considered as elective)

Students may request credit for other certifications from these or other issuers. Approved certifications will be added to the list above. Restrictions may be imposed on acceptable training providers. Credit will not be available for certifications where the equivalent workload is significantly less than that expected in a #2 UQ course.
International students interested in completing an industry certification course must complete the course alongside their UQ enrolment. Requests to extend your studies will not be approved to complete the industry certification course outside the length of their student Visa/CoE. International students should be aware that claiming credit for industry certification courses towards their UQ program has implications for meeting the Australian study requirement component of Australian visas and should refer to the guide on the Home Affairs website for more details.
